MEMBERSHIP

$20 Per Person Per Year

The Newham Mechanics Institute is one of the very few Mechanics Institutes owned and operated by its community.

All residents of Newham and adjoining districts are entitled to membership and its accompanying benefits. The larger the membership the stronger is our community’s voice.

The NMI Committee works hard to ensure the hall is well maintained and fully equipped to operate at the highest standards for the benefit of the community. Membership, a nominal $20.00 per person, carries no obligation other than to be one of the many who consider the hall to be a highly valued community asset.

We invite you to encourage family, friends and neighbours to become members.

ABOUT US

The Newham Mechanics Institute has been an integral part of the Newham community for over one hundred years.

Rich in the history of our town, it has provided great service over the years as a location for meetings, polling booths, parties, weddings and more. It is run by a dedicated and hard-working committee of volunteers and has survived financially through fundraisers, revenue from bookings, and grants from the council.

The Hall re-opened in December 2009 after extensive renovations, including a new supper/meeting room, kitchen, storeroom and toilet block, as well as an upgraded parking area. The re-development was paid for by grants from the Regional Development Fund and MRSC, and over $30,000 raised by the local community.

With renovations to the building now complete, there are ongoing plans to develop the surrounds with landscape planting and a community orchard at the rear.

Many local community groups now use the hall as a base for meetings and events.
